DHS Occassionals 27 – 0 Stobswell

In his farewell match, Andy Nicol put out a very strong High School team containing some recent, and some not so recent, Scottish internationalists, plus a few players who a few years ago were playing Premiership One rugby, namely Andy Nicol, Shaun Longstaffe, David Leslie and Ian Rankine. Against this formidable opposition we put in a very creditable performance, before running out of steam.

Both sides were keen to keep the ball alive and early exchanges were fairly even, with some strong tackling from both sides keeping the scores level. High School eventually took the lead when a loose Stobbie pass was picked up by their winger, who went over in the corner for an unconverted score. We continued to push for an equalising score before half-time but were unable to make the vital breakthrough.

The second-half continued in the same vein as the first with both sides willing to run at every opportunity, however, as the game progressed the rolling subs law was applied loosely (as was advantage) by the referee towards High School. (Well, they did have 40 players to our 20). We did create a few more chances in the second half with both Steve and Ray going close but unable to get the ball over the line. With the Stobbie team tiring, High School, returned to almost full strength and with some good inter-passing, scored 4 tries, converting one of them.

This was a very good performance against a hugely experienced team and looks promising if we can continue this form for the remainder of the season.

PS

Euan, it is much easier said than done to attempt to run round, or through Rousey.
